Poodles - Pictures
Poodles - Pictures - HealthThe owners and breeders of Poodles argue that their dogs are generally healthy. However, like most dog breeds, Poodles are susceptible to some hereditary disorders that should be a special concern of breeders and prospective buyers of dogs.Hip dysplasia is a major concern of Poodle breeders. Though many responsible breeders are aware of this health condition common in Poodles and try to always test their breeding stock, the number of affected dogs is still impressive. Thus, according to the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) statistics the number of diseased Poodles has diminished a little over the last few decades. Yet, there is much work ahead of breeders who want to improve Poodles. It should be remembered that the parent dogs should be tested yearly to prove they are eligible for breeding. This procedure is not painful for the dog, yet insures success when producing puppies. Poodles are also prone to such diseases as epilepsy, bloat, patellar luxation, and others. Therefore, buying a puppy that stems from a healthy bloodline will save much trouble to prospective Poodle owners. Nevertheless, the dog's health depends not only on inheritance factors. Care is also important while raising Poodles. Keep in mind that clean dogs are healthy dogs. If you are a novice, contact experienced owners or groomers of Poodles to ask for advice on caring for the dog's coat.
